Attempted Murder: Court Remand Couple Who Beat Up Police PRO In Calabar

A Magistrates Court sitting in Moore road, Calabar has remanded a couple Mr. and Mrs. Effiom Nsefik who allegedly beat up the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Police Force, Cross River State Command – ASP Irene Ugbo.

In suit No. MC/225/2022 between the Commissioner of Police versus Eyo Effiom Nsefik and Miranda Eyo Effiom, the couple is charged with conspiracy and attempted murder on the Police Spokesman.

The Prosecuting Counsel, Barrister. Ofem Ubi moved four grounds for application of motion experte supported with five paragraphs affidavit to detain the suspects to enable the police to carry out further investigation.

The Counsel relied on sections 516 and 320 of Criminal Code, cap C16, Volume 3, the law of Cross River State, 2004, to remand the suspects.

His application was not objected to by the Defending Counsel, Muri Ndiyo Ekpenyong Esq. He, however, prayed it should be an open end, and shouldn’t be indefinite while the accused are incarcerated.

Ruling on the application, Chief Deputy Magistrate Mercy Ene of Court 2, granted the prayers and adjourned the case to 29 August 2022 to enable the police to carry out a proper investigation while the suspects are remanded at Afokang Correctional Center.

The couple, decked in deep and light blue tops respectively, were accompanied by men of Operation Restore Peace, formally, Operation Puff Adder.
