CIVIC SPACE: Inibehe Effiong Raises Nine Grounds In Notice Of Appeal Challenging Akwa Ibom Chief Judge Committal Order

Rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong who is serving a one-month jail term handed him by the Chief Judge of the High Court of Akwa Ibom State, Justice Ekaette Obot for alleged contempt has filed a notice of appeal to vacate the committal order.

The notice was filed on Friday in suit number HU/279/2019 at the High Court of Justice, Uyo and will be heard by the Calabar division of the Court of Appeal.

The relief sought is an order setting aside the conviction and sentence imposed on Mr. Effiong by Justice Obot on July 27th, 2022 with nine grounds of appeal raised challenging the entire decision of the lower court.

The appeal was filed by 12 lawyers led by Femi Falana SAN, with Akwa Ibom State Governor listed as the claimant/respondent while Leo Ekpenyong Esq, is the defendant/respondent.
