The Obol Lopon of Ugep and Paramount Ruler of Yakurr, Obol Ofem Itam, has charged the Social Democratic Party, SDP, governorship candidate Engr. Effiom Okokon and his vice, Mr. Daniel Obo not to be intimidated, but to build capacity.

The monarch gave the counsel to the SDP gubernatorial team on Friday when they visited his palace in Ugep seeking his counsel and blessing ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Stating the reason for the consultation, Engr. Effiom, the SDP flag bearer said his program for Cross River State is tagged #TheHEARTSProject.

He further pointed out that there is a need to rescue the State from its current state of indebtedness through health, education, agriculture, rural development, tourism, and security projects that will be people-centered.

“We are here to seek your blessings, we know that we are owing huge debt as a State but we cannot even see the value of the debt we are owing. I believe that we can lead Cross River,” he buttressed.

Responding, the Yakurr Paramount Ruler said, “You see, to govern a State, you need to have the capacity, because to lead a group of people is not easy, talk more of a whole State. You have my blessings, wherever you go they will listen to you.”

The monarch advised that the team should pay listening ears as they go round seeking the people’s support for the Cross River governorship.

Earlier, the deputy governorship candidate, Mr. Daniel Obo, in a preamble said the essence of seeking the monarch’s support and blessings is because he is a key stakeholder in the Cross River project, and that his team is capable of taking Cross River State upwards and forward.
