Ayade Lifts Embargo On Employment, Announce ‘Limited Recruitment’

By Mary Bassey

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has lifted the embargo placed on employment in the State Civil Service, and Local Government Service, announcing ‘limited recruitment.’

This is coming as some positions in the state civil service will be left vacant due to retirement and other sundry reasons. Also, the Governor has come under criticism for his inability to recruit workers into the shrinking civil service and boost the workforce especially as he bows out in less than 26 weeks.

But, in a release signed by the Head of Service – Timothy Akwaji, Mr. Ayade gave the pat for recruitment.

The release states that applicants resident in the Southern Senatorial district are to collect forms either from the Civil Service Commission or the Local Government Service Commission.

Similarly, applicants from the Central Senatorial district are to pick forms from Ikom Local Government secretariat while those from the Northern Senatorial district are directed to obtain forms from Ogoja Local Government Secretariat.

He warned that: “No applicant is expected to pay money for application form or employment into the service.”

It reads in full: “His Excellency, the Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade (CON) has lifted the embargo on employment in the state.

“Consequently, the Cross River State Executive Council has approved limited recruitments into the state civil/public service and the unified Local Government Service. The exercise which shall be transparently conducted, following due process, is intended to fill vacancies in the service.

“Such vacancies exist in the mainstream service, unified Local Government service, Educational Sector, Health Sector, and the Judiciary.

“Applicants resident in the Southern Senatorial District are to collect forms either from the Civil Service Commission or Local Government Service Commission for placements in the state civil/public service and the unified Local Government service.

“Applicants resident in the Northern Senatorial District should obtain forms from Ogoja Local Government Secretariat, while those resident in the Central Senatorial District are to pick the same from Ikom Local Government secretariat.

“No applicant is expected to pay money for the application form and/or employment into the service.”
