Information reaching CrossRiverWatch says gunmen attacked the convoy of Chief Martin Orim, the Chief of Staff to Cross River Governor, Senator Ben Ayade.
The incident happened on Sunday afternoon at the Biase axis of the Ikom – Calabar highway which has seen increasing attacks by armed kidnappers in the past six months.
Details remained sketchy as of press time.
The Okomita junction to Ibiae section of the highway has become a hotspot for kidnapping activities with vehicles often attacked.
Initially, busloads of passengers were abducted. And, in the past eight weeks, it has degenerated into attacks on vehicles with different individuals sustaining gun wounds while at least one has been reported killed.
The attack on Mr. Orim is the second in high profile attacks in the past two weeks after vehicles in the convoy of the gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Redemption Party for the March 11, 2023, general elections, Pastor Usani Uguru was attacked about a fortnight ago.
