As the political arena continues to heat up with the general elections just a few days away, reports of attacks and other electioneering vices are beginning to spring up.
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, Hon. Francis Ekeng is reportedly survived an assassination attempt by unknown gunmen.
Ekeng who is the State Organizing Secretary of PDP narrowly escaped when some thugs suspected to be agents of the opposition party attacked and vandalized his apartment in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of the State, leaving his security man battling for his life.
This is coming less than five days after the gubernatorial candidate of People’s Redemption Party (PRP) and former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Usani, escaped assassination along the Calabar-Ikom highway.
Usani who attended a town hall meeting organized by the National Human Rights Commission in Calabar, was on his way to his hometown in Nko, Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State on Friday, February 3, 2023, when he was attacked.
The ex-minister was said to be in the company of his running mate and others at the time of the incident.
Two persons were reportedly killed and a few others whisked away by the gunmen who shot at their vehicles.
