Cross River State Governor, Sen. Bassey Edet Otu in a meeting with Government House staff earlier today promised to attend to the issues bothering them and also promised to remodel the government house.
The event had in attendance, the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Hon. Peter Odey, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Owan Enoh, among others.
Otu in his address said “I believe that the first factor of production is human beings and when you don’t have the right, you cannot produce right.
“I am told here that you are owed arrears and some promotions that were given out but not implemented, and I promise that all those are going to be implemented immediately.
“In terms of the allowances that are normally paid, because I am so happy to hear that you come and you don’t know when to close because I personally don’t know when to close and everybody will have to imbibe that kind of work ethic so whatever allowance is supposed to be given so that you enjoy working to any time that your energy will take you, we will also make sure that those allowances are restored.”
On the issue of remodeling the offices, Otu assured staff of giving them a 21st-century smart office.
Furthermore, Otu disclosed that the issue of transportation would be sorted out when government vehicles are recovered.
His words: “The issue of transportation will be looked into. We know that so many people are still keeping government cars, we appeal, please, government is a continuum, bring those things so that we make our job easy.
“We know the cost of one car now, very expensive indeed and we cannot wait until we get all the cars before we start working, I will appeal in that area that we still manage the way we are managing until we are able to put some transport facilities in place but I believe in no distant time, we should also be able to overcome that.
“In terms of light, it is terrible to hear that there is no light. We should have light 24 hours and we are working assiduously to make sure that we meet up and achieve all these targets and even surpass it.”
The Deputy Governor, Hon. Peter Odey posited that “I am presently operating from the Boys Quarters which is called the Glass House for now and that is because when I went into the office of the former deputy Governor I knew that there was some work to be done.
Hon. Peter reiterated the difficulties faced by staff, especially in the case of convenience.
