BREAKING: UNICAL Drops Cross River Assembly Speaker, 565 Others Over Poor Grades

The Management of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has withdrawn a total of five hundred and sixty-six students including, suspected Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly and Member representing Ikom 2 State Constituency – Elvert Ayambem Ekom from the institution over poor Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).

In a list said to have been published by the school and shared on social media by the former SUG President Anthony Afufu Agabor as well as other students and platforms, the affected students cut across 100 levels to 400 levels across 15 Faculties and Departments.

Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry and Resource Management, Department of Agricultural Economics has 10 students withdrawn; the Faculty of Allied Medical Science, Department of Medical Laboratory Science has 24.

The Faculty of Art and Social Science Education, Department of Art Education – 29; Faculty of Art, Department of Christian Religious Studies – 86.

Faculty of Basic Medical Science, Department of Anatomy 25; Faculty of Biological Science, Department of Genetics and Biotechnology – 66.

Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Dentistry – 8; Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Department of Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering – 15.

Others are Faculty of Environmental Science, Department of Architecture – 18; Faculty of Law, Department of Law – 8; Faculty of Management Science, Department of Accounting – 66.

Also, Faculty of Medical Laboratory Science, Department of Medical Laboratory Science – 1; Faculty of Medicine, Department of Medicine and Surgery – 4; Faculty of Oceanography, Department of Biological Oceanography – 4.

Similarly, the Faculty of Physical Science, Department of Computer Science – 147 and the Faculty of Social Science, Department of Economics – 55.

The suspected name (Elvert Ayambem Ekom) is a 100 Level student in the Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Economics.

However, at the time of filing this report, it is unclear if he is the student UNICAL has axed.
