Cross River Was Eroded In Last 8 Years, We Will Restore It – SSG

BY Godwin Otang

The Secretary to the Cross River State Government (SSG),  Professor Anthony Owan-Eno, has assured Cross Riverians that the new government would do its best to bring back the glorious status of the State to the benefit of every citizen.

The SSG gave the assurance in Calabar while addressing the Committee of Pioneer Students of the College of Education Akamkpa, who paid him a courtesy visit and felicitated with him on his appointment as Secretary to the State Government in Calabar.

Addressing the Committee, Owan-Enoh who was former Provost of College of Education (COE) Akamkpa, averred that the entire State structure is full of rot but assured that the new administration headed by Senator Bassey Otu will do its best to revive it.

“When I look back to the College and see what I see there,  my heart bleeds.  But right now I am the Chief implementer but not the chief decision-maker. I think I am in a position to affect changes in the system. This State must grow for the benefit of all of us.

“What we saw in the case of what happened over the last 8 years, if some of you see it, you will die.  There was a point that there was no system again. Not even the money,  money is something different.  But we thank God that no matter what happens, the Bible is very clear; that except a seed falls on the ground, decays, and germinates, no fruit will come out of it.

“We (Cross Riverians) have come to that very point now,  we must germinate now.  We will bring back the State for which we all know.  So for young people like you, it’s you I pity because your future is almost being eroded. You left school in 2012, Eleven years after, with nothing to show. When I left school, I became a lecturer at age 26. But the world has changed but we will do our best to bring back Cross River State,” he reiterated.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Committee of Pioneer Students of College of Education Akamkpa, Comrade Iferi Sunday,  and the set leader Ogbe Oru Ebam congratulated the SSG and appealed that young people should be carried along by the government.

“We have come today to say, in the same way, you managed and balanced that situation, also manage the State for us (the youths ) for the government to have a special place for us.  Congratulations on your appointment. We the Pioneer Students of the College of Education Akamkpa have come to say don’t throw us away. “
