Ikom Fire: Senator Eteng Sympathize With Victims, To Assist In Providing Fire Equipment

By Patrick Obia

Following the fire that razed down about 48 rooms and apartments along Obudu Road, 4 Corner in Ikom Local Government Area of the State, the Senator representing the Central Senatorial district in the 10th National Assembly, Sen. Eteng Williams has sympathized with victims, and promised to provide fire fighting equipment to Ikom station of Fire Service.

The root cause of the fire which razed down rooms, apartments, and properties worth millions of Naira, late last week can not be ascertained, leaving victims in pain.

Senator Williams in a statement issued by his Media office described the fire incident as worrisome and sympathized with those whose houses, shops/stores, and wares got burnt in the unfortunate incident.

“Over the weekend, I got a sad call on the sudden fire outbreak that razed down 48 room and parlor apartments located at Obudu Road, 4 Corners in Ikom Local Government Area.

“I commiserate with the victims, in particular those whose shelter and source of livelihood has been directly affected by the fire outbreak,” he said.

He promised: “I understand the physical and emotional trauma this would have caused those affected, hence, in the coming days I will be making interventions to assuage the plights of all those who are affected.

“Also, in the course of my investigation, I learned that the Ikom Fire Service Station has no functional firefighting vehicle and as such is handicapped in situations like this.

“As Senator representing the Central Senatorial District, I will be engaging with all stakeholders and government agencies including the State Fire Service to provide functional equipment to forestall future occurrences,” the former Cross River House of Assembly Speaker assured.
