The Executive Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu has begged the State judiciary to temper justice with mercy as there are many cases and petitions against the government in courts.
Governor Otu made the appeal when the Chief Judge of Cross River State, Justice Akon Ikpeme led other Judges to a courtesy call held in the Conference Room of Dan Archibong Lodge, Calabar.
He said no society can function properly without the judiciary as they remain the last hope of the common man.
“I am happy that in Cross River State and to some extent, we have been able to abide by the dictates of our constitution. We will continue to build a completely new relationship where we are going to build confidence in each arm of government,” he pledged.
He continued: “We have too many issues and I believe that if we are working together, we are working to deliver the State and make sure that our people benefit not just from dividends of democracy, but that of responsibility as leaders,” he said, pleading that judgment against the government should be tempered with mercy.
On her part, the Chief Judge commended the Governor for the good works he has begun and also pledged the State Judiciary will have a cordial relationship with his government.
Justice Akon however, presented issues bothering the Judiciary in the State ranging from welfare among others.
In attendance were the Deputy Governor of Cross River State – Hon. Peter Odey; Chief of Staff to the Governor – Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar; Secretary to the State Government – Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh among others.
