In a maiden friendly football encounter, the University of Calabar (UNICAL) Football Club defeated the Rovers Football Club of Calabar 4 goals to 2.
The match came as the UNICAL’s Student Union Government (SUG) Director of Sport, Diogo Pele led the football team to victory against the Rovers.
The match took place at the Abraham Ordia Stadium in the school campus, witnessing huge cheers from the football enthusiast supporters.
Analysts say a strategic and careful selection of players by the Sports Department brought about the victory.
The fiercely contested game ended goalless at half-time but the second 45 minutes saw a harvest of goals with the host team outclassing their opponent 4:2.
The match is said to be in line with the campaign mantra of reinvigorating sporting activities in the University campus community.
SUG President of UNiCAL Comrade Kichi-akwo Godsgift while addressing the students enjoined all Malabites and Malabresses (UNICAL students) to “fasten their sporting kits as our sporty-sportified agenda has come to stay.”
