ICPC, DSS Owns Up Arrest Of Embattled Professor Cyril Ndifon

By Godwin Otang

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), has owned up to the arrest and custody of the suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law,  University of Calabar (UNICAL), Professor of Cyril Osim Ndifon on Thursday 5th October 2023.

The ICPC in a statement dated October 5, 2023, and signed by Peter Afunanya, Director, Public Relations and Strategic Communications for Department of State Services National Headquarters Abuja, and obtained by CrossRiverWatch, the Commission said it carried out the operation in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), sighting the refusal of Prof. Ndifon to honor its several invitations as reasons for his eventual arrest.

The Commission’s statement is coming on the heels of suspicions and speculations that heralded the media space earlier Thursday morning alleging that Professor Cyril has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen from his residence at night.

The Statement reads in parts: “The ICPC has sought the collaboration of the Department of State Services (DSS) on the University of Calabar (UNICAL) Sex Scandal matter involving Professor Cyril Ndifon, the erstwhile Dean of the Faculty of Law of the Institution.

“The Commission had disclosed the refusal of Ndifon to honor its several invitations, thus his eventual arrest in Calabar, Cross River State by its operatives on 4th October 2023 based on a Court Order.

“However, the Service, following the Commission’s request and in the spirit of inter-agency cooperation, supported it for a successful operation. This is to guide public understanding of the latest developments on the matter.”
