AFCON: FG Lauds Super Eagles After Defeating RSA And Set Final With Ivory Coast

The Federal Government of Nigeria has lauded the Super Eagles of Nigeria for reaching the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations where they will face the host Nation Ivory Coast.

The Eagles reached the final after defeating the Republic of South Africa 4:2 on penalty shoot-out having played out 1:1 draw in regulation time.

In a congratulatory message shared on his official X (former Twitter) handle shortly after the joyous victory on Wednesday 7, February 2024, the federal government through the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan-Enoh, said the entire country doff hats for the Eagles who are gearing up to lift the title for the fourth time.

“My dear Super Eagles, today you have given every Nigerian compatriot a reason to rejoice. We all doff our hats to you,” he expressed.

With Kelechi Iheanacho scoring the winning decisive penalty kick to send soccer-loving Nigerians to football havens, the Minister said Super Eagles “have shown us all that the Nigerian spirit is a winning spirit.”

“You are conquering the continent one match at a time. Bravo, heroes of our time!”

He charged the team to bring the trophy home in the finals on Sunday 11 February 2024 when they face the host nation – Ivory Coast who beat DR Congo 1:0.

“You have set your goals high and you have not stopped. Keep soaring and bring home the Africa Cup of Nations. Unto the Finals. Congratulations!!!”
