Tracka, a social platform for active citizens, who are interested in monitoring budgets and public projects in their communities, raised the alarm on the alleged abandonment of the projects by the implementing agencies and the contractors.
Disclosing on social media handles X (former Twitter), Tracka called on the Cross River Basin Development Authority and the Federal Cooperative College Ibadan, “to provide the public with details of the projects.
It read: “N29.5m was allocated to the grading of Farm Road from Osuegi (Banana Park) to Small Onuighe Farm Settlement, Olulumo Clan, Ikom LGA, Cross River State, in the 2023 FG Budget. We tracked and reported that this project has not been done. Residents lamented that the poor road has made it difficult for them to transport farm produce to the market for sale. We call on the Cross River Basin Development Authority, the implementing agency, to provide the public with details of this project and facilitate its execution.
“N10m was allocated to the provision of Solar Borehole at Ekukunele Ikom, Cross River State in the 2023 FG Budget. We tracked and reported that this project has not been done. The chairman of the community said his people have been without access to clean water for over 10 years and community members are dying from waterborne diseases.
“The community was also faced with other infrastructural needs such as good access roads, a community primary school, and a functioning health care center. We held a town hall meeting with residents and stakeholders of this community to sensitize them on how they can demand good governance. We call on Federal Cooperative College, Ibadan, the implementing agency, to facilitate the execution of this project.
“We also call on the Cross River Basin Development Authority, Federal Ministry of Power, Works, and Housing, Nigeria to urgently address the infrastructural needs of this community.”
