The Nigerian Police Force has moved to tighten its grips on the international borders with the visit of the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) on Border Patrol, AIG Badru Banji Lawal, to Cross River State.
The courtesy visit paid to Governor Bassey Otu by the AIG in company of the State Commissioner of Police, CP Augustine Gyogon Grimah, alongside other senior police officers in Calabar, on Thursday, 18 July 2024 centered on modalities the Force is putting in place to curb external threats.
AIG Badru Banji Lawal disclosed the approval of a new Border Police Post by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun in the State, especially in wake of the continuous armed Ambazonian militants in Cameroon on Belegete Community in Obanliku Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria.

The new Border Police Post to be established at the Belegete community in Obanliku LGA of the State aims to address and curb the illegal activities of foreigners, particularly the Ambazonian Separatists, in the border areas of the state.
In response to the initiative, Governor Otu represented by his Deputy Rt. Honorable Peter Odey acknowledged the significant reduction in crime rate across the state, attributing it to the Governor’s commitment to partnership with the Nigeria Police Force, Cross River State Command under the marshaling of CP Grimah, and other security agencies.
He emphasized the state government’s resolve to safeguard its citizens and support security initiatives.
The visit of the AIG underscores the Force’s dedication to enhancing security and addressing border-related challenges in the State.

IGP Kayode said establishing the Post at Belegete community is a strategic move to combat illegal cross-border activities and enhance the safety and security of residents in border areas.
It also seeks collaboration between the state government and the police efforts to maintain peace and order and ensure citizens’ well-being and the integrity of the state’s borders.
