The Management of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), has suspended all activities of the Students Union Government (SUG) in the school till further notice.
The suspension was contained in a press release signed and issued by the Acting Vice Chancellor of the school, Professor Stephen Ochang on Monday August 12, 2024.
The Acting VC said the suspension is due to a perceived protest by students on the SUG’s recently conducted election.
Prof. Stephen noted that the move is to avert disruption of the on-going examinations rescheduled and billed to commence on Wednesday, 14h August, 2024.
He warned students to note that necessary security measures have been put in place to stop any act that tantamount to breakdown of law and order in the University community.
The release reads: “The attention of the Management of the University of Cross River State has been drawn to a planned protest by some students of the University arising from the recently conducted Students Union Government (SUG) election. Management has given careful consideration to matters relating to the said SUG election and has decided to suspend all SUG activities in the University til further notice.
“The decision of Management to suspend activities of SUG is to avoid any disruption of the on-going examinations.
“Students are therefore advised in their own interest to prepare for their examinations that commences on Wednesday, 14h August, 2024. Issues concerning SUG and the elections will be re-visited at a later date.
“Students should also note that necessary security has been put in place to stop any act tantamount to the breakdown of law and order in the University community. Please, be well guided.
