Some residents of Calabar South and Calabar Municipal Local Government Areas of Cross River State, are applauding the current public power supply being witnessed in the metropolis.

Our reporters went round to sample views of residents about the current electricity supply in Calabar. Residents in their divergent views applauded the government for the improvement in supplies while some said status quo ante still remain.

Mr. Manasseh Richard said there has been improvement especially in Ekpo Abasi area dominated by students. He said they can experience power supply aften compared to when they lived with complete darkness for years.

Miss Ella Ekpenyong on her part lauded the PHEDC for the supplies. Ella, however, expressed concern about high voltage that come some times but said it is better than blackout.

While other respondents agree there is an improvement, some like Godwin Ineji said it has not improved, calling on the government to extend hands of fellowship to other areas and LGAs yet to benefit.

Meanwhile, the State government says efforts are ongoing to tackle the over 8 years of darkness in Bekwarra LGA.

The Director General of the State Electrification Agency (SEA), Mr. Eric Ekpo disclosed this in Calabar, where he said Governor Bassey Otu has instructed for restoration and frequent public power supply in the local government

Eric disclosed that the Governor has assured Cross Riverians that all communities will have access to uninterrupted power supply soon, while appealing to the locals to be patient with the state government.

The DG on his part, has pleaded with communities to adopt proactive measures to protect their facilities when finally installed.
