The Exquisite Royal Pearls Club of Ugep (ERPCU), a community-focused organization dedicated to promoting cultural heritage, and supporting community development has donated food items and personal hygiene essentials to about 500 indigent young girls in Ugep, Cross River State.

The donation, according to the organization, was in celebration of the 2024 Ugep Leboku New Yam Festival. The event, which took place on Tuesday in Ugep, was held in partnership with Hon. Cyril James Omini, the member representing Yakurr 1 Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly.

Speaking at the event, the President General of the Club, Jesam Ogum Obeten, stated that the donation was part of the organization’s commitment to giving back to the community.

She emphasized that the motivation behind the gesture was rooted in the organization’s core values of empathy, compassion, and community development.

“We are here today to celebrate the Ugep International Leboku Festival and to give back to our community through the donation of food items to women and personal hygiene essentials to young girls, who have been our main focus from the inception of our organization. Through our initiatives, we aim to inspire positive change, promote cultural awareness, and foster a sense of community. Our message is one of hope, empowerment, and unity,” she added.

Mrs. Ogum further stated: “We are passionate about empowering the Ugep girl child, believing it is crucial for building a stronger, more equitable society, and by giving back to our community. We aim to make a positive impact and inspire others to do the same.”

Some of the beneficiaries expressed their deep gratitude to the organization for remembering them during such a period of celebration.

Agnes Egu, one of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the kind gesture: “I am truly grateful for this kind gesture. It shows that the community cares about us, and it has made this year’s festival even more special.”

Goodness Arikpo echoed similar sentiments, saying that “The support we have received today will go a long way in making a difference in our lives. We appreciate the Exquisite Royal Pearls Club of Ugep for thinking of us.”
