The Special Adviser on Events Management in the Governor’s Office of Cross River State, Effiong Ekpenyong has said that the Yakurr Leboku International Festival will continue to enhance the cultural economy of Yakurr communities and the State.
During a press briefing at the Obol Lopon’s Palace in Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area, Ekpenyong highlighted that Governor Otu’s “People First” policy facilitates teamwork and simplifies the implementation of community-centric programs and projects. He acknowledged the dedicated efforts of those who have worked tirelessly to bring global recognition to the festival.
Ekpenyong pledged his support for the Leboku New Yam Festival, aiming to elevate its appeal both locally and internationally.
The SA assured that his office would collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure the festival’s success in terms of event management and production, while also contributing innovative ideas to further enhance the celebration.
He expressed gratitude to the stakeholders and members of the National and State Assemblies for their commitment to advancing the growth of the annual event.
“My special thanks to the senator representing the central senatorial district, members of House of Representatives Abi/Yakurr, members of House of Assembly – Yakurr 1 and 2, Heads of Tourism clusters of Cross River State, HOLGA Yakurr, local organizing committee of Leboku International New Yam Festival 2024, Paramount Ruler of the Yakurr nation and his Council of chiefs.”
“We have benefitted from shared knowledge and experiences from a series of meetings towards ensuring a very successful Leboku 2024. Our amiable sponsors, stakeholders, and well-wishers, your response, not minding the short notice is highly commendable.”
“On the 21st of August 2024, we will be experiencing the evolution of the Leboku New Yam Festival, extending the socio-cultural value chain onward to building a cultural economy for the people of Yakurr and Cross River State at large, through the Leboku spirit.”
The Commissioner for Tourism, Art, and Culture, Abubakar Ewa represented by Mr. Dan Aleke, echoed Mr. Ekpenyong’s sentiments.
“We are on the same page. We promise to ensure that we have a better Leboku festival. Besides Leboku, other tourist attractions like Ugep Stones and Water Falls would help enhance our cultural economy.”
The Managing Director of the Tourism Bureau, Ojoi Ekpenyong, announced that there would be collaboration with hotels and hospitality providers this year to ensure the standard and safety of guests.
He called on the sons and daughters of Yakurr to maintain peace and create a welcoming atmosphere for both locals and visitors during the 18th Leboku Festival.
