The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), has announced a three-day warning strike to press home their demands.
The committee made up of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), said the warning strike will begin on Monday August 19, 2024.
In a notice of warning strike signed and addressed to Governor Otu through the Governing Council and the Vice Chancellor, JAC/NAAT Chairman Vincent Etta and Chairman of SSANU Mark Enang, noted that the UNICROSS governing authorities have been inactive on their long-standing requests, which led to the decision.
The Unions said no action has been taken despite correspondences offering 21, 14, and 7 days notice, respectively, for addressing the issues mentioned.
Though the notice does not specify the nature of the demands, but their members will not be providing their services during the strike.
“Recall our correspondences to you dated June 11, 2024, July 15, 2024 and August 7, 2024, which gave twenty-one (21) days, fourteen (14} days, and seven (7) day notices respectively, and for which no action was taken on any of the issues in dispute raised therein.
“On the strength of the above, the Joint Action Comnittee (JAC) of SSANU, NASU and NAAT of University of Cross River State, having exhausted the procedure for trade dispute declaration, will embark on a three (3) day warning strike beginning from Monday August 19, 2024 through Wednesday August 21, 2024.
“The warning strike is intended to drive home our demands as contained in our correspondences under reference. To this end, JAC withdraw the services of her members throughout the period of the warning strike.”
