Residents and motorists in Calabar South and Ikom Local Government Areas, respectively have decried the dilapidated roads in their areas.
Residents of Ekpo Abasi in Calabar South LGA say the main road to Musaha is in a deplorable condition with numerous potholes, forcing drivers to use pedestrian paths. A situation that puts pedestrians at risk.
Same in Afokang, the road remains in a bad state. The refuse has spilled passed its bounds, struggling the main road with both drivers and pedestrians.
A driver identified as James, expressed displeasure over the situation and prayed Governor Bassey Otu to extend hands of fellowship on roads in the area.
“The road is extremely bad and I have no choice but to take the pedestrian way, which is dangerous and uncomfortable for both drivers and pedestrians,” he said.
In the same vein, residents of Bendeghe-Oimekpang in Ikom LGA have lamented the pathetic state of the Ikom-Obudu federal road.
They said vehicles are held completely and unmoved for a while. “Both sides of the pothole and bad spot were filled with vehicles which were unable to pass through, simply because there was just one spot vehicles could pass through and a truck got hung on that spot. For a long time, there was no way out and no way in for vehicles,” a commuter narrated.
Pissed with the condition, the commuter added: “Are we being represented by people with conscience? Is this road truly a federal government road? Will the people in various government offices seek a second tenure from us in the future? These questions should serve as guidelines to all those who can directly or indirectly influence or cause the government to do something about this road.”
