The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has suspended all planned elections for the Law Students Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN), citing an existing ban on electioneering activities within the faculty.

This decision comes after the Vice Chancellor, Professor Florence Obi received reports of students planning to conduct LAWSAN elections despite the ban.

According to a release by the Registrar, Mr. Gabriel Egbe, addressed to students in the Faculty of Law, the university management emphasizes that the ban on all electioneering activities by LAWSAN still stands. The students are warned against taking matters into their own hands, as contravening the ban will result in unpleasant consequences.

According to Management, the directive serves as a reminder to students to adhere to established guidelines and regulations governing student elections within the institution as the suspension aims to maintain order and prevent potential disruptions to academic activities.

Student elections involve positions including president, vice-president, secretary general, and representatives from different faculties and departments .
