The Management of the University of Calabar, (UNICAL), has suspended final-year students of the faculty of Engineering, for flouting the school’s reckless driving, wild celebration, and flying of colors rules.
In a memo signed by the school’s Registrar, Gabriel Egbe said the Vice Chancellor, Professor Florence Obia is dismayed by the report of the students flouting the management’s directives as contained in circular Ref. UCREG/DISC.45A dated August 7, 2024, on the ban on reckless driving, flying of colors, and wild celebration after examination.
She lamented that the students in flagrant violation of the extant policy embarked on actions that threatened the peace and serenity of the University – were seen engaging in recklessness, Lawlessness, and noisy convoys in the guise of celebrating the completion of their final examinations.
“The Vice Chancelltor is saddened by this development and has directed that all final year students in the faculty of Engineering should be placed on suspension. Accordingly, the students concerned are hereby suspended with effect from Wednesday, September 25, 2024.
The VC directed the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) to ensure all actions relating to the processing of results of the affected students are put on hold pending the conclusion of investigations by the Special Committee put in place for the purpose.
The Dean and all Heads of Department in the Faculty of Engineering are also directed to comply with the decision.
