Youths In Cross River Charged To Shun Violence, Acquire Meaningful Skills

Youths in Cross River State have been charged to get involved in meaningful skills and shun violence and other social vices.

Organizers of the 2nd Edition of the Late Chief John Ugbe Football Competition, held in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State, on Saturday September 7, 2024 where the younger generation were urged to discard vices that impede their future growth.

Speaking on behalf of the organizers, the former Local Government Chairman of Obudu, Hon. Emmanuel Ugbe, said that for the meantime, the Foundation chose football due to its unifying spirit.

He disclosed that the Foundation will also come up with scholarships and other initiatives as time progresses.

Speaking, the special guest of honor, Chief Tony Undiadeye, lauded the Foundation for embarking on such a tournament.

He charged the Foundation to keep the zeal and expand the scope.

“I must commend the organizers of the tournament. Everything is top-notch and one of its kind. I hope the youths learn to take sports seriously.”

On his part, Chairman Local Organizing Committee of the competition, Dr. Abu Undiadeye, described the tournament as a way of giving the youths an opportunity to showcase their talents.

“The John Ugbe football competition is one of its kind. It is poised to harness football talent and grow sport in the grassroot.”

Meanwhile, captain of Urban 1 Team, commended the organizers for the competition. He advised youths to engage in sporting activities and shun social vices.

The final of the competition between Ipong Ward and Urban 1 ward, ended 1 goal to nil in favor of Urban 1 ward.
