BRCI Launches Child Welfare Guidelines And Rights Committee In Cross River

Basic Rights Counsel Initiative (BRCI), a non-profit organization defending human rights and fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Cross River State and the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, has launched the Regulations and Guidelines for Alternative Care in the state.

The event, held in partnership with UNICEF, ActionAid Nigeria, Safe Child Africa, and the Cross River State Government, included key representatives from the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Women Affairs, and Ministry of Social Welfare and Community Development.

The Attorney General of Cross River State, Ededem Ani highlighted the importance of child welfare during his address, noting the government’s commitment to safeguarding vulnerable children.

The Special Adviser to Governor Bassey Otu’s Wife, Mr. Jeffrey Adamade praised BRIC’s efforts and expressed optimism regarding the acceptance of the Child Rights Law.

The Paramount Ruler of Nyanghasanga, His Highness Esinjo Eric Bassey, passionately urged attendees to foster love and care for every child.

The official presentation of the Alternative Care Guidelines aims to provide sustainable support for vulnerable children in the state.

The Commissioner for Social Welfare reiterated the government’s dedication to addressing issues of child neglect, abuse, and labor, while promoting a collective responsibility for the welfare of children.

BRCI said the inauguration of the State Child Rights Implementation Committee marks another milestone, reflecting a concerted effort towards the effective implementation of the Child Rights Law in Cross River State.

The organization expressed gratitude to its partners and stakeholders for their unwavering dedication to advancing child rights and protection, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in achieving these goals.

The launch signals a hopeful future for child welfare in Cross River State, with a view to create a safer and more nurturing environment for every child.
