Calabar Children’s Carnival Boosts Mental Well-Being, Says First Lady

The wife of the Cross River State Governor, Mrs. Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, has emphasized the importance of the Children’s Carnival in enhancing the mental well-being of its young participants.

According to Chief Press Secretary to Governor Bassey Otu, Mr. Gill Nsa, the First Lady while speaking at the flag-off of the Children’s Carnival dry run in Calabar on Sunday, said the event as a platform for children to not only maintain physical fitness but also enhance their mental alertness.

Represented by Prof. Esther Okon Archibong, the wife of the chairman of Calabar South Local Government Council, Mrs. Otu highlighted the strategic timing of the carnival coinciding with the festive season which provides an ideal opportunity for children to engage in enjoyable activities, forge friendships, and create lasting memories with their peers.

She also lauded the participating bands for their innovative displays, characterized by captivating costumes and designs, which consistently drew a large audience eager to witness the annual spectacle unfold.

The main children’s carnival for the 2024 Calabar Carnival will be held on December 27th, 2024 while the adult carnival, recognized as Africa’s biggest street party, takes place on December 28th.
