Cross River Assembly Commits To Improve Healthcare In The State

The 10th Cross River State House of Assembly, has committed to improving healthcare services for Cross Riverians.

The House made the pledge at a public hearing on the Cross River State Drug and Health Commodities Management Bill 2024, and the Cross River State quackery Prohibition Bill 2023.

Chairman, House Committee on Health, Honorable Hillary Bisong during the hearing said the bills aims at setting up standards for healthcare providers and ensuring qualitative healthcare service delivery for the citizenry. He said all healthcare providers will be expected to register with the state government.

Hon. Bisong who doubles as Chief Whip of the House maintained that the Drug and Health Commodities Management Bill will make quality and affordable drugs available for the citizens stressing that it will greatly reduce mortality rate as citizens will have easy access to affordable drugs when the need arises.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Ajuk, commended the Assembly on its efforts towards improving the life of Cross Riverians through people oriented legislation.

Other stakeholders in the health sector present in the public hearing include members of the Nigerian Medical Association, the Director-General of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency; the Director-General of Cross River Health Insurance Scheme; Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Chairman Anti- quackery Taskforce, NANNM, as well as the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists all made professional contributions to the proposed bills.
