Elizabeth Adede: Family Announces Funeral Rites For Former Cross River Finance Commissioner

The family of Lady Elizabeth Agbo Adede has announced the funeral rites for the former finance commissioner and retired permanent secretary in the Cross River State civil service.

Lady Adede, 69, passed away after a surgical procedure at the Garki Hospital, Abuja, on Friday, February 21, 2025.

Funeral Rites

The burial arrangement, signed by her brother and former legislator, Senator Musa Adede shows that her journey home will begin on Wednesday, March 19th 2025 with a Night of Tributes at the Event 45 center off Atekong Drive, State Housing Estate in Calabar, the Cross River State capital by 6:00PM.

A farewell mass in her honor will be held at the Christ the King Church along Barracks lane in Calabar by 8:00 AM on Thursday, March 20th.

This will be followed by a valedictory session at the temporary State Executive Council chambers, in the Council of Chiefs chambers by 11:00AM.

On Friday, March 21st, a vigil mass will be held at Saint Luke’s Catholic Church in Akorshie community of Bendi in Obanliku Local Government Area of northern Cross River by 5:00PM.

And, on Saturday, March 22nd, her remains will be committed to mother earth after a Requiem Mass at the same church by 10:00AM.

About Lady Adede

A teacher, civil servant, and administrator, Lady Adede’s career spanned multiple roles at national and subnational levels.

Born in Kaduna nearing the end of the colonial days, Lady Adede read languages and majored in French before proceeding to do her master’s degree in Business Administration at the University of Calabar.

Lady Adede was appointed finance commissioner in 1994 by the then state’s military administrator, Group Captain Ibrahim Kefas later became a member of the board of a federal agency in 1997 after her appointment by the then Head of State, General Sani Abacha.

Initially a Secondary School teacher, Lady Adede transferred to the civil service in 1998 after her appointment was terminated.

She rose to the rank of Permanent Secretary and retired in 2016 while posted to the Department of Public Transportation, now the Traffic Management and Regulatory Agency.

In 2017, she was appointed as Special Adviser on Revenue by Governor Ben Ayade. A position she served until 2019.
