A graduate of the Mechanical Engineering student of the University of Cross River State, UNICROSS Mr. Martins Eyam who was arrested on the directives of the Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Francisca Bassey on April 7th 2025 has been released.

Mr. Eyam was invited to meet with the management team after he shared a voice note on the National Association of Cross River State Students, UNICROSS Chapter WhatsApp group, enjoining students to support each other to challenge the “No Fees, No Exams” policy of the institution on Sunday, April 6th, 2025.

And, on the morning of April 7th, upon arriving in the administrative complex, was handed over to the joint task force team set up by the Cross River State Government, Operation Okwok, after Professor Bassey pointed at him in the presence of her Principal Account Officer, Chief Security Officer and other staff that he was the one inciting students.

He was intimidated by the law enforcement agents who said he, a poor fellow, wanted to be like Femi Falana, a legal luminary and Vincent Martins Otse, a social critic better known as Very Dark Man.

Later in the day, he was moved to the Medium Security Custodial Center, Afokang after a remanded order was obtained from a Magistrate Court and April 25th taken as the date for him to be arraigned to take a plea.

As at press time, it is unclear whether the Magistrate reverted himself. However, Mr. Martins has been ferried to the Governors’ office with pictures showing him next to the office of the State Security Adviser.
