The Students Disciplinary Committee, SDC of the University of Cross River State, UNICROSS has finally begun sitting to investigate the activities of seven students who were suspended by the varsity’s management who claimed they led a demonstration against its “No Fees, No Exams” policy.

The students are Emmanuel Olom – 20/CSC/109 Computer Science, Charles Joseph Etim – 20/CSC/244 Computer Science, Kenneth Kelechi Jacob – 22/D/MAC/006 Mass Communication, Anthony Ikenna Chiwinke – 20/STA/003 Statistics, Joshua Unimashi Betebeke – 20/CEN/243 Civil Engineering, Chidera Richard Ugochukwu -20/CSC/235 Computer Science and Michael Ogar – 18/EEN/244 Electric Electronic Engineering.

The students were suspended via a circular dated April 5th, 2025 and signed by the Registrar, Mr. Victor Ene after a demonstration by students over the policy as well as the inefficiency of management staff to verify Remita Retrieval References after fees were paid by hundreds of students.

The students also complained that the current management has refused to upload the supplementary and mop up examinations conducted by the past management.

“During the period of their suspension, they are not to participate in or be found on Campus of the University. Violating this directive shall attract stiffer disciplinary actions, including the possibility of expulsion,” the circular, which some have described as a knee-jerk reaction, read.

And, 19 days after their suspension which includes a graduate who was not in Calabar, the SDC, has begun sitting, calling the students in one after the other while the management struggles to control the damaging comments in the media.

Meanwhile, they collected the unlocked device of one of the students, asking him to step out while they carry out their investigation, a violation to his digital rights.

CrossRiverWatch gathered that most of the students did not even get the letters of suspension until one hour before the SDC began sitting.
