The Management of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) in the agreement with the Students Union Government (SUG) has suspended its examinations after students’ peaceful protest.
Some aggrieved students of the varsity had on Thursday, April 3rd, 2025 protested the school management “No fees, no exams” policy. The students who disrupted the ongoing exams in various departments, chanted solidarity songs making their voices heard at the school Administrative building.
Though no management official addressed them, but have responded after consultation with the SUG body. The suspension was contained in a statement signed by SUG Senate President, Sen. Kanung Benjamin and Chief Whip 1, Sen. Joanna Etim.
“Prior to the resolution from the meeting held by the Management with Student Union leaders, the Senate brings to the notice of all students in Blazers Republic at large that the following terms have been reached.”
The SUG said due to administrative requirements, all examinations scheduled for April 3rd have been cancelled as the temporary suspension will allow management to verify and update the records of students who have fulfilled their fee obligations.
“Exams will recommence on Monday being 7h of April, 2025.2. It is essential to note that the Management decision on No Fee, No Examination”policy remains in effect. This means that only students who have paid their complete tuition fee will be eligible to participate in the exams. And for those students who have made payment and their names are not found in the list, they should do well to present their school fee receipt for verification to the examiners or any authorized person for vetting and approval. Anyone who is found with cloning/phony receipt of payment of school fee will face the disciplinary committee,” the Union warned.
The students body disclosed that Management has announced that students who couldn’t pay their fees before the recommencement of the examination, aftermath will be given an opportunity to take a supplementary examination which is imminent. “Importantly, this supplementary exam will not incur any charges.”
