The Cross River State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, has said the force acknowledges the publics growing concern regarding the tragic events surrounding Mr. Charles Mkpang Ene and the subsequent actions of Inspector Effiong, as widely discussed on various social media platforms.
The Command gave the concern in press release issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, stating that while the Command understand the emotional weight of the situation, the public are urged to disregard misleading reports that have surfaced, which “only serve to distort the facts and hinder the ongoing investigation.”
The release averred that the Cross River State Police Command, under the leadership of the newly deployed Commissioner of Police, CP Olusegun Eyitayo Omosanyin, remains unwavering in its commitment to ensuring that justice, fairness, and transparency are at the core of the ongoing investigation.
“We have acted swiftly in mobilizing our Tactical Units to apprehend Inspector Effiong and ensure he faces due legal processes as prescribed by law.”
The release explained that the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Mustapha Mohammed Bala, along with the Command’s Management Team, the Divisional Police Officer of Atakpa, and the Investigating Officer, have all shown an unwavering commitment to upholding justice in the matter.
“In a show of support for the victims, the AIG had made a cash donation to the victims likewise Police Command, through the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ugbo Irene, who made a cash donation to the victims’, ensuring that they receive the necessary assistance during this difficult time. Let me also reiterate that the Police Command identifies and commend the unrelenting effort, support and collaborative partnership of the State Government. Our thanks goes to His Excellency, the Acting Governor, Cross River State and other government functionaries for promoting peace and tranquility in the State.”
It added: “We stand firm in our resolve to allow justice to run its course, free from external influence. The people of Cross River State deserve the truth, and we assure them that the final outcome of this case will be made public.
“The Cross River State Police Command remains dedicated to ensuring that no one is above the law, and we will continue to act in the best interests of justice and equity for all.”
