Following the communal crisis between the people of Vandiekya in Benue State and Abonkib community in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State, that has turned bloody, the Chairman of Obudu LGA, Hon. Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, has sued for peace.
The two communities age-long communal dispute which surface last week has already claimed at least four lives.
The crisis took another turn as commercial driver identified as Agage Ternenge, was seen in a viral video gruesomely murdered by some mobs in Obudu urban of Cross River State.

Agage who hails from Mbanyam in Mbatyough Council Ward, Vandeikya LGA of Benue State, was attacked while delivering a waybill to an individual in Obudu. An act Obudu LGA Chairman has condemned and termed “barbaric”.
In a statement signed on Tuesday, 22nd July, 2025, by the Chief Press Secretary to the chairman , Ikwen Atuaka, also described the incident as unfortunate and totally unacceptable act that threatens the peace and brotherhood both communities strive to uphold.
With reprisal attacks coming from both communities, Hon. Undiandeye frowns against the action and urge them to refrain from the reprisal attacks, not to take laws into their hands and charged them to allow constituted authorities to investigate and address the matter appropriately.
“I deeply regret the loss of lives on both sides and extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Every life is valuable, and no act of violence can be justified. The cycle of revenge must stop,” he said.
He disclosed that security agencies have been mobilized to maintain order and prevent further breakdown of law and order, assuring affected communities that the government is taking swift steps to de-escalate tensions and pursue justice for all victims.
Hon. Undiandeye appealed to traditional rulers, youth leaders, and stakeholders to intensify dialogue and cooperation, urging all residents of Obudu, including the Tiv community, to remain calm, law-abiding, and united in the face of the regrettable situation.
