The 10th Cross River House of Assembly has embarked on its annual recess.
The recess, CrossRiverWatch gathered, was accelerated due to power challenges bedeviling the Assembly.
Members held an emergency session on Thursday presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem and voted to embark on the recess.
The Deputy Speaker and all members from northern Cross River were absent as they are on tour with the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey.
“The generators serving the quarters at Ekorinim and the complex have packed up for a while and they are yet to be fixed,” a source told CrossRiverWatch.
When CrossRiverWatch visited the Assembly, only a handful of members were present and they were using two Microphones interchangeably connected with a portable sound system since the lack of power meant they could not use the built-in sound system.
The Assembly is expected to resume on October 10, 2025 for its third legislative year, and in time to receive the 2026 budget.
