Police Arrest 5 Murder Suspects In Cross River, Clear Air On Viral Video

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with the murder of a herder – Idris Yakubu in a farm at Ugaga Community, Yala Local Government Area of the state.

The police in a press release signed by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, for the Commissioner of Police CP Rashid Afegbua, explained that the act emanated as a result of grazing of a farm land belonging to one of the suspect at Ukpochi Unit, Yala LGA.

CP Rashid said the Area Commander of Ogoja upon receipt of the complaint, mobilized men from his Area Command and Division to effect the arrest of the under listed suspects whose names are given as Chief Oko Ogar – 45 years who is the Village head of Ukpochi Unit; Joseph Ohobu Ogar – 35, David Oko Womah – 65 and two others.

He noted that discreet investigation aimed at diligent persecution is ongoing.

In the same vein, the Command has cleared the air on a viral social media video by one MC Okirika alleging police brutality.

“On the 7th day of August,2025 at about 1400hrs, upon a report which bothers on unlawful possession, stealing and forcible entry, the suspect one Odok Nelson Etta ‘M’ of Bendegraffi Community in Ikom LGA of Cross River State, resisted arrest and engaged policemen. In the scuffle which resulted to his sustained gun shot injury on his leg.

“He was rushed to the hospital for medical attention where he is currently receiving treatment and responding.

“A civic and public minded indigene who was conversant with the matter assisted the Police with information which led to recovery of dangerous weapons from the bush where he hid them knowing his pedigree. These included an unlicensed single barrel gun and two (2) machetes. They have been handed over to the State CID for detailed investigation.”

CP Afegbua, however, enjoined the public not to take laws into their hands but rather report complaints or breaches to the appropriate authorities for swift response.
