The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has granted full accreditation to the Cross River State College of Nursing Science, Obudu. Oficially approving the commencement of its academic programmes.

The approval was contained in a letter signed by the Director, Nursing and Health Sciences Programs Department, Samala Tanko, for the Executive Secretary of NBTE, and addressed to the Provost of the College. The letter, titled “Grant of Accreditation to Program,” announced that the institution’s first academic session would commence on October 13, 2025.

According to the letter, the accreditation followed a visitation exercise conducted by the Board from September 28 to 30, 2025, after which the Board approved the Higher National Diploma (HND) Nursing Program with three streams of 60 students each, for a period of five years, effective from October 13, 2025 (2025/2026 academic session).

The letter, however, highlighted certain deficiencies observed during the accreditation exercise and directed the institution to implement specific corrective measures. These include: Appointment of a qualified Head of Department, possessing both first and second degrees in Nursing, not below the rank of Senior Lecturer, and duly registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN); Engagement of an external moderator from a sister Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution rather than a university; Improvement in the furnishing of staff offices.

The Board also emphasized that student admissions must not exceed the approved class streams and that the next accreditation visit will be due in 2030. Institutions are required to invite the Board for accreditation when due, as failure to do so may result in disqualification from further admissions into the program.

The NBTE Executive Secretary extended his “highest regards and consideration” to the management of the college.
