Amids permutations, controversies and tussle that has be clouded the Vice Chancellorship of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), the institution Council has approved the appointment of Professor Offiong Effanga Offiong as the new Vice Chancellor.
Tension grew when the tenure of the outgoing VC – Prof. Florence Banku Obi drew near of who will be the qualified successor for the job.
And on Friday, October 31, 2025, the school’s Council approved Prof. Offiong’s appointment.
Though his appointment has been trailed with mixed reactions with many of the opinion his selection is tribalistic.
