The former Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Liyel Imoke has resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), after 28 years of political association.
In a resignation letter dated March 2, 2026, and addressed to the Ward Chairman of the PDP in Itigidi Council Ward, Abi Local Government Area of Cross River State, Imoke said his decision was prompted by the protracted crisis within the party which made it impossible for him to effectively serve the Party and the people.
As one of the founding members of PDP since 1998, Imoke noted that he is grateful for the opportunities the Party offered him to serve the nation and state as Presidential Special Adviser, Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Governor of Cross River State.
He appreciated the support he enjoyed over the years and wished the party well.
