Determined to keep Cross River State safe during the ongoing festivities period, the Cross River State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested a man with illegal firearms, just a few days a man was also arrested with illegal firearms.
The arrest was made during a crime prevention patrol by the Anti-Cultism Squad Unit of the Command while on crime prevention patrol.
In a press release issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Irene Ugbo, said the patrol team sighted the suspect identified as Ofem Ibiang Owari aged 45 at Igbofia Camp along Ikom/ Calabar Highway.
He was said to have been concealing himself with a tree. “After a hot chase, he was arrested with an automatic pump action gun with one expended cartridge, one live cartridge and a cutlass.”
According to the police, the suspect claimed to be a security personnel for a company and could not give a good reason why he hovered around the highway flinging the weapon at 2:11AM. He is currently being interrogated, the release added.
Reacting to the arrest, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid Afegbua, said the Command is determined to continue to deny criminal elements space to operate during and after the festivities.
