Ward-To-Ward NIN Registration Begins Feb 16 As Police, NIMC Strengthen Coordination In Cross River

By Kelvin Ololo

Preparations for the commencement of a ward-to-ward National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment exercise in Cross River State have gathered momentum, following a coordination meeting between the Nigeria Police Force and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in Calabar.

The exercise, scheduled to begin on February 16, 2026, was a major focus when the Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Rashid B. Afegbua, received the newly appointed NIMC State Coordinator, Mrs. Nwoye Bridget Ogechukwu, at the Police Headquarters on Monday, February 9, 2026.

The engagement was confirmed in a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah Akata.

Mrs. Ogechukwu said the visit was to formally notify the Police Command of NIMC’s ongoing and forthcoming activities in the state, with particular emphasis on the decentralized enrolment exercise designed to take NIN registration closer to residents at the ward level. She noted that the initiative is expected to improve access, reduce overcrowding at enrolment centers, and increase the number of registered residents across urban and rural communities.

She also stressed the need for sustained collaboration with the Police, especially in the areas of security coverage and public sensitisation, to ensure a smooth and credible exercise throughout the state.

Responding, CP Afegbua reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining a strong working relationship with NIMC and other relevant institutions. He assured the new State Coordinator of the Police Command’s readiness to provide necessary support in line with its constitutional responsibilities, particularly where public safety and national development are concerned.

The ward-to-ward enrolment is expected to be significant for Cross River residents, as the NIN remains a key requirement for access to government services, financial transactions, telecommunications services, and other official documentation.

The meeting ended with both parties expressing mutual commitment to continued cooperation to ensure the success of the enrolment exercise across the state.
