Police Dismisses Viral Video Claim Of Herdsmen Attack In Cross River Community

The Cross River State Police Command has debunked a viral video alleging that herdsmen recently attacked farmland in Odukpani Local Government Area, describing the claim as false and misleading.

In a press statement signed and issued by the Police Public Relations officer ASP Sunday Eitokpah on Tuesday, the Command said an on-the-spot assessment was conducted in Atan Okoyong community following the circulation of the video and found no evidence to support the allegation.

According to the statement, engagements with community stakeholders showed that there is no recent conflict between herders and farmers in the area.

The police added that preliminary findings suggest a truck seen transporting cattle along the Calabar–Itu Highway may have contributed to the misunderstanding and subsequent spread of the report online.

“The claim is false and misleading, and does not reflect the current situation,” the statement said.

The Command urged members of the public to disregard the video and avoid circulating unverified information capable of causing panic or tension within communities.

Residents were also advised to report suspicious activities through official police channels rather than rely on unconfirmed social media reports.

The clarification comes amid recurring concerns over farmer-herder relations in parts of the country, where viral reports both verified and unverified have often heightened public anxiety and security fears.

Authorities have not indicated whether any investigation will be launched into the origin of the video or those responsible for circulating the false claim.
