The Cross river State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a woman, Blessing Ayebe found dead in church toilet.
The incident is said to had happened in Presbyterian Church, Ikot Ansa Parish, Calabar, restroom.
The spokesman of the Command, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, said the deceased attended a church service on Saturday, June 28, 2026, but did not return home afterward. Her lifeless body was discovered in the church toilet at about 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 29.
According to the Police, the incident was officially reported to the Federal Housing Police Division on July 1 by her daughter, Peace Minka Ayebe, after she received information from her brother, Saviour Ayebe.
The victim was taken to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), where medical personnel confirmed her dead. Her remains have since been deposited in the hospital’s mortuary for preservation and an autopsy.
Preliminary investigation by the police at the scene and body examination did not show any visible signs of violence. They added that no suspect has been identified or arrested, as there is currently no evidence suggesting foul play.
The police stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the death. They assured the public that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
