The Cross River State Government has announced Monday, September 14, 2026, as the official resumption date for all public and private schools across the state for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The announcement, which is aimed at ensuring adequate preparation for the new school year, calls on parents, guardians, students, teachers, and school proprietors to make the necessary arrangements for a smooth and successful return to school.
According to the approved academic calendar released by the state government and made available to CrossRiverWatch, the first term will run from September 14 to December 4, 2026, while the second term will begin on January 11 and end on March 25, 2027. The third term is scheduled to commence on April 12 and conclude on July 9, 2027.
The government emphasized that both public and private schools must strictly comply with the approved academic calendar, warning that any violation would attract appropriate sanctions.
Education stakeholders have been encouraged to prioritize early preparation, as the beginning of a new academic session presents another opportunity for students to pursue academic excellence and build a stronger foundation for their future.
For many families, the resumption date also serves as a reminder to complete school registrations, purchase learning materials, settle outstanding fees, and ensure that children are adequately prepared for the demands of the new academic year.
Meanwhile, Education experts have consistently maintained that regular school attendance and adherence to academic schedules are essential for effective teaching and learning.
A well-structured school calendar not only promotes discipline but also creates an enabling environment for students to achieve their educational goals.
The resumption notice was contained in a public announcement issued by the Cross River State Government through the Commissioner for Education and signed by Mrs. Inaku Theresa Iyozo, Director of Schools, on behalf of the Commissioner for Education.
The state government reiterated its commitment to improving educational standards and urged all stakeholders to work together to ensure a productive and successful 2026/2027 academic session.
