The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has ordered intensified security operations across the state ahead of the 2026 ember season and the forthcoming yuletide celebrations.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Cross River State Command, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, the directive was issued on Monday, September 7, 2026, during the Command’s weekly briefing, as the state anticipates an influx of visitors and increased commercial and social activities associated with the festive period.
CP Ordue directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Heads of Formations to sustain strategic deployments and intensify highly visible, intelligence-driven patrols across crime-prone areas, major entry and exit routes, markets, motor parks, business districts and other public spaces.
The Commissioner said the Command would adopt a proactive approach to security rather than wait for criminal activities to occur before responding.
“We are not waiting for criminals to strike before we respond. We are moving ahead of them. Every commander must take responsibility for the security of his area and ensure that the presence of the Police is seen and sustained,” he said.
As part of the expanded security strategy, the Command is set to take Operation VELVET to the waterways, with its maritime component scheduled to launch at the Dolphin Marine Base, Calabar, on Friday, September 11, 2026.
The maritime operation is expected to complement the intensified land patrols by strengthening surveillance and security coverage across the state’s waterways and maritime corridors, particularly during the festive season.
The Commissioner warned criminal elements against attempting to exploit security gaps in the state, assuring that the Command was fully prepared to disrupt criminal activities and maintain security across both land and waterways.
CP Ordue also assured residents, visitors and businesses of the Police Command’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful and secure festive season.
He, however, urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements or activities to the Police.
