Residents of Asuquo Abasi Street in Mount Zion, Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State, have cried out to the Cross River State Government over the bad condition of their road, calling for urgent intervention to ease their suffering.
Asuquo Abasi is one of the streets in the densely populated Mount Zion area of Calabar South. The street serves as a major link to many houses, and other adjoining streets in the community.
However, the road is currently in a very bad state. It is full of erosions and stagnant dirty water that breed mosquitoes.
During the rainy season, the situation becomes worse, making it almost impassable for both pedestrians, and motorists. It is observed that commercial motorcycles and tricycles avoid the road.
Residents, including school children were seen struggling to navigate through the bad road to get to their destinations.
Speaking with one of the community leaders who pleaded not to be mentioned (due to victimization from the government) implored the government to come to their rescue.

Though the leader said one of the reasons the road has remained in such a poor state is the improper building erected in some areas.
The community leader who has full knowledge of the situation said the government is unwilling to pay compensation for the buildings that could be destroyed during construction.
The source assured that efforts are on to ensure the roads in the community are constructed.
