In the early hours of Sunday October 4, 2026, a tanker driver and his conductor (names withheld) conveying diesel didn’t know it was their last day to kiss the earth goodbye.
The duo die in a fatal explosion while overturning and avoiding a bad spot – collided with stationary truck in the process, along the Odukpani Local Government Secretariat, Cross River State.
Not only were lives lost, property and goods worth millions of Naira were lost in the fire which spread to nearby shops and buildings.

While lives and property owners count their losses, many sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.
According to Cross River State Police Command, the tanker conductor died on the spot while the driver hospitalized was later confirmed dead.
