What began as an ordinary night in Igbo Imabana Village turned into a scene of grief and shock after 45-year-old Egbegi Elegbo Enya was brutally murdered, leaving his family and community reeling from the violence.
The incident occurred at about 10:30 p.m. on April 10, 2026, in Abi Local Government Area of Cross River State. The killing was formally reported to authorities the following morning by the victim’s elder brother, Egbe Elegbo Enya.
Preliminary findings indicate that the victim was attacked and killed with a machete by one Emereze Gabriel Okoro, who is suspected to have carried out the act alongside other accomplices. Detectives from the Cross River State Police Command visited the scene and evacuating the body to the General Hospital in Itigidi, where it was deposited for preservation and autopsy.
In a significant development, the prime suspect, who fled immediately after the attack, has been tracked and arrested by security operatives. He is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
Police Authority have also launched a manhunt for other suspects believed to be connected to the killing, signaling that further arrests may follow.
While reassuring residents of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order, the police emphasized their commitment to ensuring justice is served.
