Security Tightened As JAMB Kicks Off In Cross River, Nationwide

By Kelvin Ololo

As thousands of candidates prepare to sit for the 2026 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Computer-Based Test (CBT), the Cross River State Police Command has announced a sweeping security deployment to ensure a safe and orderly examination process across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Rashid B. Afegbua, has ordered the mobilization of personnel, operational assets, and intelligence resources to all approved CBT centers in the 18 local government areas.

The CP said the move is aimed at protecting candidates, examination officials, and critical infrastructure throughout the examination period.

The directive follows broader instructions from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, mandating heightened security presence and intelligence-driven operations nationwide during the exams.

The JAMB CBT is a high-stakes national examination that determines admission into tertiary institutions, making it a critical exercise requiring strict order, transparency, and protection from malpractice and disruptions.

Police Authority say the heavy deployment is also designed not only to prevent security breaches but also to deter examination malpractice, which has remained a persistent concern in previous years.

In a press release signed and issued by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, averred that the deployed officers have been instructed to maintain professionalism while remaining firm in addressing any form of misconduct, including impersonation, unauthorized access, or attempts to disrupt the examination process.

Security operatives will also work in coordination with other agencies to monitor examination centers, surrounding environments, and access routes.

The Command has called on candidates, parents, and guardians to comply with all examination guidelines and cooperate with security personnel to ensure a smooth and hitch-free exercise.

Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the police urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities through designated emergency lines, stressing that collective responsibility is key to the success of the nationwide examination.

The 2026 JAMB CBT is expected to draw a large number of candidates across Cross River State, with authorities determined to guarantee not just academic integrity, but also the safety and confidence of all participants.
