The Cross River State Government has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Ugep and Idomi communities of Yakurr Local Government Area following recent skirmishes over land.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Erasmus Ekpang.

The curfew, which commenced on Tuesday, will remain in force for an initial period of seven days.

The directive forms part of efforts to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the affected communities, the State says.

Authorities said the decision follows resolutions reached at a peace meeting held on May 4, 2026, led by the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, and attended by key stakeholders, including representatives of the warring communities, the State Boundary Commission, and the Surveyor General.

Security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, have been directed to enforce strict compliance with the curfew while ensuring that vehicular movement along the Ugep-Ikom highway remains uninterrupted.

The Government also called on traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents to cooperate with security agencies and promote peace, urging all parties to avoid actions capable of escalating the situation.

Reaffirming its position, the state government stated its commitment to a peaceful and transparent resolution of the dispute, emphasizing that stability in the area is critical to overall development in Cross River State.
